Showing a home for sale means executing more than a jiffy clean-up.
Here's what the pros suggest for "Open House":
- "Neutralize the extremes" If you have a purple wall, paint it beige.
- Get rid of clutter. Clean the basement and attic. Remove excess furniture to off-site storage
- Perform minor landscaping. remove dead wood, grass clippings, trim grass and shrubs.
- Resurface a worn bathtub. Install a fresh shower curtain, clean towels, fresh potpourri and soaps. clear out Medicine chest and remove area rugs
- Freshen up hardwood floors. Make them clean and shiny. Don't refinish unless it's pitted or scratched badly

- If you have a fireplace, light a fire. But maintain a moderate temperature range
- Arrange fresh cut flowers throughout the house
- Go to other people's open houses, get ideas
